Mike is a board member with the Illinois Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), a volunteer with other mental health organizations and a writer focused on mental health and suicide prevention.

His latest published books include Suicide Escape, a novella/memoir exploring teen depression and Doing unto Others, a future based thriller testing the incorporation of Golden Rule principles into government. He is currently writing a non-fiction book about a mother who turned losing her teenage son to suicide into a difference-making youth development program.

Mike created and delivers an evidence based, vetted workplace mental health training program built on research, personal mental health experiences and years of managing individuals with various mental health challenges. He is a certified Youth Mental Health First Aid instructor and regularly conducts More Than Sad, Talk Saves Lives and other training programs on behalf of AFSP. In addition to has Board role, Mike serves as the Project 2025 Illinois coordinator for AFSP, aiming to reduce suicide losses by 20% by 2025 through interventions in healthcare, corrections systems and firearms safety.
